Events to Start the New Year

We all love a fresh start, a whole new year of possibilities and the chance to improve on previous endeavours. If you are in Stellenbosch during the last few months of summer, there is plenty of fun to be had. Why not soak up the hot summer sun and take your pick from some of these events taking place in and around Stellenbosch:

The Stellenbosch Wine Festival Presented by Pick ‘n Pay

This is the perfect excuse to join us at Fynbos Villa Guest House for the weekend and a glimpse into the Cape Winelands. Annareth Bolton, CEO of Stellenbosch Wine Routes says that 2014 promises to be bigger and better than ever; “The Stellenbosch Wine Festival is not only about wine, it is about the Stellenbosch lifestyle. It is therefore very appropriate that the festival coincides with the annual harvest. This is a unique opportunity to experience what Stellenbosch is all about – the history, the people, the wines and great food. It is also about engaging with local communities and giving something back to these communities,” says Bolton.Stellenbosch Wine Festival 2014

At the festival you can expect a harvest parade, street festival, cultivar showcases, art exhibitions, speciality tastings and tours, promotions and special events. There will be a three- day wine expo held in the centre of the town during the ten- day wine spectacular. Die Braak in the heart of Stellenbosch will play host to the expo from 31st January to 2nd February 2014. The venue will be transformed into an open air- lounge featuring over sixty winery stands during this time. There will also be live entertainment. Other highlights include the dedicated American Express Winery Experiences at nearly eighty wineries in the area, while the American Express Wine and Dine programme will showcase some award- winning restaurants in the Stellenbosch region offering promotions and specials.

Proceeds from the various events taking place throughout the festival will go to the Stellenbosch Wine Festival Foundation where funds are utilized for bursaries for underprivileged students whose parents work within the wine industry.
