Whats Happening in Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch Farm Run (4 August 2013)

Start August off with a bang by joining other runners at the Stellenbosch Farm Run! The route will start from Eikestad Primary School in Stellenbosch. All fitness levels are most welcome and distances are well suited to newcomers and families. Routes will cover the southern part of town and take you back along the Eerste River.

Start Times:

  • 15km- 9am
  • 8km- 9:15am

Timing for the event will make use of Amarider Trail Tags which are included in the entry fee. If you already hold one of these tags you will receive a discount:

  • Tagholders 15 km- R100Stellenbosch Farm Run
  • Non- Tagholders- R120
  • Tagholders 8km- R75
  • Non- Tagholders- R90

Late entries (if available) will be sold on the day at R120 for the 8km and R150 for the 15 km.

Make a day of it with family and friends and start August off with fresh air in your lungs and the smell of oak trees and sprouting vineyards in your nostrils. There will be refreshments available along route such as Powerade, fruit & nuts and drinks at the finish! There will also be a lucky draw and the chance to win some fantastic prizes! Hidden Valley Gourmet Braai and Wine Festival (31 August to 24 September 2013)

The festival is set to make you re- think what you think you know about braaing! This is an experience for the entire family and bookings are already open so get your tickets soon to ensure you don’t miss out. There are 3 dates available for you to choose from; August 31st, September 14th and September 24th 2013. The event kicks off at 12, just in time for lunch!

A ticket gets you the following:

  • Legendary chef Bertus Basson and his Eat Out Top 10 restaurant team at Overture will be preparing a gourmet braai feast.
  • You will receive a bottle of Hidden Valley Pinotage or Sauvignon to share for the day.
  • Wine tasting of Hidden Valley’s award winning wines.
  • Barrel Wine Tasting.
  • All- day entertainment for adults and children.

Simonsig Vintage Wine Day (24 August 2013)

The estate will be showcasing a fine selection of older signature wines which have been held back for release at optimal maturity. The day promises to be a fun- packed day out for the entire family with a selection of fantastic food, music to get you tapping and activities for the kids.

A private selection of vintages dating back to the early 90’s will be made available exclusively on this day by cellarmaster Johan Malan. Some of these old classics include Simonsig flagships such as Bordeaux style Tiara, Frans Malan Reserve, the Cape Blend, award- winning Redhill Pinotage and Merindol Syrah. Other unique flavours at special prices for this day only, include rare vintages of Simonsig Cabernet Sauvignon, Simonsig Pinotage and Simonsig Kaapse Vonkel Méthode Cap Classiques.Wine-Swirling

There will be an opportunity to take part in Johan’s master classes and enjoy interactive vertical wine tastings. If you are an enthusiast, these are not to be missed as a limited number of Master Class seats are available. Other attractions of the event include the vibrant sounds of Newton, Chef Lucas Carstens and his team cooking up a variety of delicious food and a variety of children’s activities to keep the little ones entertained.

Tickets for the Simonsig Vintage Wine Day can be bought online at www.webtickets.co.za at a cost of R150 per person. Early bird tickets are available online and include a complimentary ticket to the event with a selection of six vintage wines valued at R600. A limited amount if tickets will be made available at Simonsig Estate on the day of the event. The Vintage Wine Day will take place from 10h00 noon until 17h00 on Saturday 24 August 2013.
